One S. Sumatra villager killed after Exspan?s crude catches fire

One villager was killed and another injured on Sunday after fire gutted more than 2,000 barrels of crude overflowed from the 6-inch pipeline in Exspan Sumatra operations, according to the company?s spokesperson.

?The crude overflowed after a valve in the six-inch pipeline that transport crude from Kaji oil field to export station was stolen. The crude spilled to villagers? pond and farms and fire destroyed 2.5 hectares of land and killed one villager,? said Aditya Mandala, Exspan spokesperson.

Aditya said the company had put off the fire and crude production from Kaji field had resumed after being stopped for one day.

Exspan is a subsidiary of publicly listed oil firm Medco Energi International Tbk. (alex/godang)
