One train at the Bontang LNG plant in East Kalimantan Province is currently undergoing technology conversion to allow it to process dry gas (or lean gas), instead of the usual wet gas (or rich gas).
This was said by Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arcandra Tahar as quoted by news portal bisnis.com on Tuesday.
He said that Bontang LNG plant currently has eight trains, of which only four are in operation. He said that one of the four trains is currently undergoing the technological conversion so that it can process lean gas. ?We convert one train to be dedicated for lean gas LNG plant. It (the conversion) is ongoing,? Arcandra said.
He said that the conversion comes in anticipation of rising lean gas supply in the future as gas fields become increasingly mature.
He pointed out that gas supply to be processed at Bontang LNG plant from the Jangkrik field in Muara Bakau block is of the lean gas type, which is quite different to the wet gas supplied from other sources. Since mid-2017, the Bontang plant has obtained gas supply from Jangkrik field at a volume of 600 mmscfd.
He added there?s potential that gas output from other fields will also shift to lean gas from rich gas in the future as the fields get increasingly mature. He cited as an example of future gas output from Mahakam block. (*)
