One worker remained missing as of late Tuesday following a landslide incident at PT Cahaya Energi Mandiri coal mine in Palaran District, Samarinda, East Kalimantan.

Antara reported that two heavy equipment operators were trapped following the landslide incident Tuesday morning, but rescuers managed to safely evacuate one of them.

?As of Tuesday afternoon, we?re still searching for the missing worker. We?re using thermal detector,? said Mujiono, Head of Operation at the Balikpapan office of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), adding that eight personnel were deployed for the search and rescue.

Cahaya Energi, which started production in 2005, was among of the list of 11 coal miners temporarily suspended by the provincial administration for failing to carry out proper reclamation at their ex-mine sites.

As reported by this portal Wednesday, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) is in the process of revising Ministerial Decree No 555.K/26/M.PE/1995 on health and work safety in mining sector, and hopes to complete it this year.

M. Hendarto, Director for Coal and Mineral Environment and Technique at the ministry said that the revision was needed as the ministerial decree is already 20 years old. He said that there have been significant changes in the mining sector during the past two decades.

Hendarto said that the ministry is also concerned with mining accidents this year, where seven people have died as of February this year. (*)
