Only one of Pertamina directors qualified to hold position: Govt

Government hinted on Tuesday that it might replace six of the seven Pertamina Board of Directors (BoD)due to their poor performance.

?If you ask for my opinion, only one is worth being retained,? Roes Aryawijaya, Deputy Minister for State Enterprises told reporters. He did not give details.

He said the BoD had failed to optimize its corporate resources by putting too much weight on upstream business.

He did not say when the shake-up would take place, but Minister of State Enterprises Sofyan Djalil hinted erlier that it might take place next week. Issue about Pertamina management shake-up had been rife when the minister said in January he would replace Pertamina directors but failed to do so in the company?s shareholders meeting. He later denied his own statement.

Roes said that the authority to replace Pertamina?s directors is fully in the hands of Sofyan Djalil. He said government would look for ?tough? directors who can say no the government. (godang)
