The government is studying the possibility of holding an open tender for the Pase block in Aceh, currently being operated by Australia-based firm Triangle Energy Ltd.

?We?re still reviewing an open tender for Pase,? Edi Hermantoro, Director of Upstream Oil and Gas at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, told petromindo.com without elaborating any further.

Triangle?s contract on the Pase block would have expired on February 23, 2012, but the upstream authority BPMIGAS had asked Triangle to continue operating the block for another six months until the new operator is identified.

It remains unclear whether Triangle would be allowed to participate in the planned tender. Triangle?s wholly owned subsidiary Triangle Pase Inc (TPI) had actually submitted a 20 year renewal application for its Pase PSC last year.
