Operators seek extension of exploration period in four CBM blocks

Upstream oil and gas authority SKK Migas is currently in the process of reviewing proposed extension of exploration activities in four non-conventional oil and gas working areas (WKs).

Jaffee Arizon Suardin, Deputy for Development at SKK Migas, said on Wednesday the four include Kapuas I, Kapuas II, Kutai Barat, and Muara Enim II coal bed methane (CBM) working areas.

?The four operators of non-conventional oil and gas WKs have sought for extension of the exploration period, and we?re currently reviewing the request,? he said, but did not provide further details.

The Kapuas I CBM covers an area of 1,102 sq km located in Kapuas regency, Central Kalimantan. The 30-year PSC was signed in April 2011 and was initially awarded to the consortium of PT Transasia CBM subsisiary of PT Sugico Graha and BP Kapuas I Ltd subsisiary of BP. In May 2013, BP completed its exit from the PSC by transferring its 45 percent non-operating interest to Sugico. PT Transasia CBM has 100 percent interest in the PSC.

The Kapuas II CBM covers an area of approximately 1,108 sq km located in Kapuas regency, Central Kalimantan. The PSC was signed in April 2011. PT Kapuas CBM Indonesia has 100 percent interest in the PSC.

The Kutai Barat CBM PSC is located in East Kalimantan province and covers an area of approximately 1,699 sq km. The PSC was awarded to PT Gas Methan Abadi in April 2011 for a term of 30 years. Gas Methan Abadi has 100 percent interest in the PSC.

The Muara Enim II CBM PSC covers an area of 1,170.8 sq km located in South Sumatra. The 30-year PSC was awarded in April 2011 to the consortium of PT Indo CBM Sumbagsel 2 Pte. Ltd, PT. PHE Metana Sumatera 5 and PT. Metana Enim Energi.
