LSE-listed Ophir Energy plc said Thursday it plans to start a 3D seismic survey in the West Papua IV and Aru PSCs (the West Papua area) in the fourth quarter of this year.

?The West Papua area (West Papua IV and Aru PSCs) is frontier with high impact potential. It is primarily prospective for oil within a carbonate play where reservoir quality has been partially de-risked by drilling to date. Ophir will be commencing a 3D seismic survey in this area in 4Q 2015,? the company said in a statement.

Ophir has in recent months completed the acquisition of the West Papua IV, Aru, Kofiau and Halmahera-Kofiau offshore PSCs, Eastern Indonesia, from Niko Resources. Multiple leads and prospects have been identified that are a mixture of clastic and carbonate play types in both proven and frontier basins.

Ophir Energy holds a 50 percent working interest and operatorship of the West Papua IV PSC and 60 percent working interest and operatorship of the Aru PSC.
