OPIC okays $120m loan to develop S. Sulawesi windfarm

US government agency Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) announced on Thursday it has approved up to US$120 million financing to PT Energi Bayu Jeneponto (EBJ) to support construction of a 72 MW wind farm in Jeneponto regency, South Sulawesi.

The project is developed by Singapore-based Equis Group, Asia?s largest independent renewable energy developer and investor.

Equis has in February 2017signed Engineering, Procurement and Construction and Operations and Maintenance contracts for the Tolo I Wind Farm in Jeneponto. The contracts were awarded to Siemens Wind Power and PT Siemens Indonesia in Consortium with PT Pembangunan Perumahan (Persero) Tbk.

Tolo I Wind Farm will install 20 Siemens direct drive wind turbines, injecting power into PLN?sJeneponto substation via a high‐voltage transmission line. Construction is set to commence later this year with an expected Commercial Operation Date in 2018.

Equis is currently finalising the development of a number of other renewable energy projectsin Indonesia with a targeted equity investment of more than US$500 million over the next 24 month.
