Pacific Oil stops operation in Aceh due to terror

Pacific Oil & Gas Ltd. (PO&G) decided on Friday to stop production and exploration activities in Perlak oilfield, Aceh Nanggroe Darrusalam (NAD) the company?s employees had been facing continued harassment, the company official said.

Company spokesperson Alfred Menayang said the firm's employees had been facing "terrors and intimidations" for a month by "certain parties who are not satisfied" with the results of the heavy equipment provision tender conducted by the company

?Ironically, the terror peaked yesterday (Thursday) following the completion of 3D seismic survey which employed over 1,000 local workers and the payment of Rp 3.5 billion compensation for the impact caused by the survey activity," Alfred said.

The firm was appointed as the operator of Perlak production block under the Joint Operation Agreement with state owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina in February 2007. (godang)
