Independent power producer PT. Paiton Energy, the owner and operator of 2x615 MW Paiton Swasta I coal-fired power plant in Probolinggo, East Java said Monday that it expected coal consumption to increase to 4.4 million tons this year, significantly higher than previous year?s coal consumption of around 3.5 million tons.

The increase, said Vice President Project Development James T. Booker, was due to near-capacity utilization of the plant. ?Paiton power plant units are operating at full capacity now,? he said.

Paiton Energy sources its coal requirement from Adaro Indonesia, Berau Coal and Kideco Jaya Agung under long-term contracts.

Paiton Energy is 44 percent owned by US energy firm Edison Mission. Mitsui Corp. has 37 percent shares and General Electric has 14 percent. The remaining 5 percent shares are controlled by Indonesian company.(alex)
