The Paiton coal-fired power plant in Pasuruan, East Java with a total capacity of 660 megawatts (MW) will be completed by the end of this year. The power plant will help strengthen the Java-Bali electricity grid, The Jakarta Post reported, citing a senior state utility company PT PLN official.

PLN primary energy director Nur Pamudji said that on Monday, the electricity from the power plant had been synchronized and connected to the grid system and later this month the company planned to conduct tests to ensure that there would be no disturbance when the plant operates at full capacity,.

?We hope that the plant can start commercial operations by the end of this year but for now the plant is producing electricity at half of its capacity,? he told reporters at his office on Friday.

He also reported that PLN decided to defer the commercial operation of two coal-fired power plants, Adipala (600 MW) in Central Java and Tanjung Awar-Awar (2x300) in East Java, to 2014 due to delays in the construction process. (*)
