State-owned shipbuilder PT PAL Indonesia (PT PAL) will take part in bidding process to build coal-fired power plants outside Java, the company officer said Wednesday.

"We will take part in bidding process for constructing power plants with a capacity between 50 to 65 megawatts (MW)," PT PAL?s president director Adwin Suryohadiprojo was quoted as saying by Antara.

"We will form a consortium with other state-owned or private companies,? he said.

Adwin said PT PAL would not take part in bidding process for power plants with larger capacity due to funding and technology limitations. But we will keep learning to be able to construct bigger power plant.

PT PAL is already experienced in constructing small-scale power plants and has the ability to manufacture some of the components such as condenser, turbine and heat exchanger.

Among its portfolios are coal-fired power plants in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta and Surabaya and gas-fired power plants in Cilegon, Banten and Muara Karang, Jakarta.

State-owned utility company PLN announced on Dec. 19 a tender for the construction of 25 coal-fired power plants outside Java. (*)
