Palyja assures water from Cisadane river is safe

Private water company Pam Lyonnaise Jaya (Palyja) ensured on the Jakarta residents on Wednesday that its water supplies, which it took from the Cisadane river, was safe for consumption, The Jakarta Post reported.

Company technical operations manager Pierre Etienne Segre said laboratory examinations of water samples from the river in Jakarta and Paris revealed that the pollution level of the river water was very low.

His remarks followed reports that the Cisadane river had been polluted by the mercury disposal of gold illegal miners at the Pongkor gold mine in West Java owned by state mining company PT Aneka Tambang. The mercury waste flowed to the river through the Cisoka and Cikaniki estuaries. (*)
