Mining contractor PT Pamapersada Nusantara (Pama) has officially recognized the establishment of the branches of the Federation of All Indonesian Workers Associations (FSPSI) and of the Indonesian Prosperous Workers Union (SBSI) at the company.
Pama's deputy project manager Rachmat said the company had no problems with the establishment of the two unions at the company.
"In Pama, there are two unions, namely FSPSI and SBSI. We recognize the existence of both organizations in the company," he said.
Rachmat noted that the head of SBSI's Pama branch Janatha had reported officially the establishment of the union to the management.
However, Rachmat said that SBSI had not yet informed the company about the planned visit of SBSI chairman Muchtar Pakpahan to Tabalong village, where Pama's project is located.
Tabalong people has staged protests for several days rejecting the visit of Muchtar Pakpahan. They said that Muchtar's visit could create chaos in the village.
Commenting on the protests against Muchtar's visit, Rachmat said Pama would support the aspiration of Tabalong people because Pama lives in Tabalong. (*)
