Dozens of workers of South Kalimantan-based coal contractor PT Pama Persada Nusantara have formally filed their appeal at the Jakarta office of the labor dispute settlement commission for the refusal of their demand by the local manpower office to work in three shifts from two shifts at present, Banjarmasin Post reported on Saturday.

The workers grouped in the SBSI labor unit in the company said that the decision of the local manpower office to reject their demand was not fair.

Fitra Hadisurya, the legal officer of PT Pama, said that the protesting workers were allowed to file an appeal within 14 days after the local manpower office issued its decision. "They remain workers of the company and still receive their salaries although they, for the time being, are not active," Fitra added.

According to Fitra Hadisurya, a senior official at Pama?s human resource department, said that the workers? demand to work in three shifts did not receive support from the majority of workers, who still preferred to work in two shifts.

PT Pama Persada Nusantara is a contractor of coal giant PT Adaro Indonesia. (*)
