The Panaran gas-fired power plant in Batam has begun its normal operation following the resumption of the gas supply from the South Sumatra-Batam-Singapore gas pipeline network, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Monday.

Nita Ch Lusaid, the spokesman for PLN Batam, said in Batam on Saturday that the gas supply to the Panaran power plant with a capacity of 2x 27.5 MW reached its normal capacity on June 25, paving the way for the power plant to operate at a full capacity.

"The power plant has operated normally and has been able to provide power supply in Batam at its normal capacity," she said.

The gas supply from the South Sumtara-Batam-Singapore pipeline declined by about 50 percent two weeks ago after ConocoPhillips, the gas provider, carried out repair works on its receiving terminals in Grissik, South Sumatra.

PLN Batam, the subsidiary of state owned electricity company PLN in Batam, said rencently that it would rent a number of power generators from Singapore to cope with the shortage of the power supply resulting from the partial operation of the Panaran power plant. (*)
