Pandu Sjahrir elected new boss of ICMA

Pandu Sjahrir was elected on Thursday new chairman of the Indonesian Coal Mining Association (ICMA) for the period of 2015-2018, replacing Bob Kamandanu.

Pandu garnered 51 votes in the voting process at ICMA?s meeting at Balai Kartini hall in Jakarta on Thursday. Another candidate, Arie Prabowo Ariotedjo, got 19 votes. As a matter of fact, there were three candidates competing for the chairmanship of ICMA. The third candidate, Milawarma, President Director of state-controlled coal mining firm PT Bukit Asam (PTBA), announced resignation from the contest before the voting process started.

Pandu is a director at PT Toba Sejahtera, a coal mining firm controlled by his uncle from maternal line, Presidential Chief of Staff Gen. (ret) Luhut Panjaitan. He is the son of late renowned economist Shyahrir. He obtained a BA degree from the University of Chicago and the MBA degree from Standford Graduate School of Business.
