PT Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of state-owned electricity firm PT. PLN, expects its 2x200 MW coal fired power plant in Pangkalan Susu, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra Province, to start commercial operation in December of this year.
The company said in a statement obtained Monday that construction of the Pangkalan Susu power plant has covered about 97 percent of the targeted works. ?Thank God, the Pangkalan Susu coal-fired power plant can start operation soon, but will begin with trial and synchronization process first,? said Hamansyah Purba, a manager for the company?s Sumatra operation, in the statement.
He explained that the stages leading to the commercial operation would be started with first fire and steam blow in July, followed with admission and synchronizing process in August, realitiblity test in September, performance test in October, and commercial operation in December.
There isn?t any serious obstacle faced by the company in completing the project, except that it has yet to complete the acquisition of a remaining 10 hectare of land belonging to one resident, Hamansyah said.
The Pangkalan Susu power plant is expected to help resolve the current power shortage in North Sumatra Province. According to Vice Governor Erry Nuradi, peak power demand in the province stands at 1,800 MW, while supply is only around 1,500 MW, resulting in a deficit of about 300 MW.
