The first unit of the 2x200 MW Pangkalan Susu coal-fired power plant in North Sumatra is expected to start producing electricity on Sunday, said State Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Dahan Iskan, who made an impromptu visit to the project Friday.
Dahlan said that if the turbine could run up to 3,000 RPM, the generator could be turned on for trial Saturday. He said that he had met with the engineers from China who help developed the power plant project, and said the plant was ready for the start of electricity production on Sunday.
Dahlan said that the second unit of 200 MW was scheduled to begin electricity production in September.
The Pangkalan Susu power plant is expected to help resolve the electricity shortage in North Sumatra. (*)
