Construction of the 2x200 MW coal-fired power plant in Pangkalan Susu, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra Province, has been completed, but electricity supply to the power-shortage region has yet to start pending the completion of the necessary transmission lines.

One Wednesday, President Director of state-owned electricity firm PT. Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) Nur Pamudji, and Director General of Electricity Jarman visited the project in a bid accelerate the construction of the 275 kV transmission line linking Pangkalan Susu and the Binjai relay station.

The construction of the transmission line had been hampered in the past by land acquisition problem for the development of 219 transmission towers.

PLN said in a statement that it was now in the process of completing the construction of the remaining one tower line, paving the way for the start of electricity supply from the Pangkalan Susu power plant soon.

The power plant was constructed by a consortium of Synohydro Corporation of Japan and PT Nusantara Energi Mandiri, which signed the contract with PLN in July of 2013 to build the Pangkalan Susu power plant unit 3 and 4.
