Papua gas engine power plants to be completed in 2017-2018

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN said that construction of a 50 MW PLTMG gas engine power plant in Jayapura, the provincial capital of Papua Province, is targeted to be completed this year.
PLN Business Director for Papua and Maluku Region, Haryanto WS said in a statement on Wednesday that another 20 MW PLTMG in Nabire Regency, Papua Province, is targeted to be completed early next year.
Haryanto said that the two power plant projects are part of the total 330 MW power plant projects currently under development in Papua and West Papua provinces to be completed through 2019 in a bid to boost electricity supply in the region.
He said that the projects also form part of ongoing efforts to electrify around 2,200 villages by 2019 under the PLN Papua Bright Program 2019-2020, which envisages that the entire households in the two provinces to be able to enjoy at least electricity lights in their homes.
?Of the total 43 regency capital cities in Papua and West Papua, there were still 14 regency capitals which have yet to receive electricity supply from PLN as per early 2016. This is one of our commitments to be presence in the entire Papua and West Papua regency capital cities,? Haryanto said.
