A number of provinces in Sumatra including West Sumatra, Riau, South Sumatra and Lampung, have been experiencing scheduled power outages during peak hours from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., an official said. The Jakarta post reported on Wednesday.

Yusman Rajo, spokesman of the West Sumatra chapter of state electricity company PLN, said the power cuts began Friday and it was unclear when it would end.

?We are forced to cut power supply because two generators in Bukit Asam and Muslin in South Sumatra are not functioning.?

The two generators are being repaired and the power cuts will end when the repair work is completed, he added.

?It?s actually difficult for us to cut the power supply as it coincides with the World Cup coverage on TV? he said. (*)
