PT Pasifik Agra Energi (PAE) will invest up to Rp 7.5 trillion to build a gas terminal at the Bantaeng Industrial Park in Bantaeng regency, South Sulawesi province.

In order to realize the project, on May 20, the firm signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Perusda Bijiminasa Bantaeng, a firm owned by the Bantaeng regency, in which the latter agrees to channel gas that will be supplied by PAE through the gas terminal, the regency said in statement on Monday.

PAE will take the gas from local or foreign sources, according to the regency.

The MoU was signed by PAE?s President Director Westana H Wiraatmadja and Perusda?s President Director M. Taufik Fachtuddin at the regent?s office.

Following the signing of the MoU, the regency awarded the principle permit for PAE to develop the project.

Bantaeng?s Regent Nurdin Abdullah said he appreciated PAE for its willingness to put its money in the regency. To show its appreciation, the regency will not ask the firm to pay for all the licenses it needs for the project, he said, while noting that the investment will open job opportunities for local people.

Westana said feasibility study on the project started in February of this year and is expected to be completed in August. Once the study is completed, the firm will start construction. The project needs 50 ha of lands and some of the lands have been acquired.

He said the terminal is expected to supply gas for central and eastern Indonesian regions. PAE is a consortium of Indonesian and Japanese firms, according to him.
