PDSI to drill geothermal well in Lumut Balai

PT Pertamina Driling Services Indonesia (PDSI), a subsidiary of state owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina (Pesero), is preparing its Rig D-1500/57 for drilling at Lumut Balai geothermal concession in South Sumatra owned by PT Pertamina Geothermal Indonesia (PGI).

PDSI?s General Manager for Java and Eastern Indonesia Wasis Dwi Atmojo said PLTP Lumut Balai is the first geothermal power plant project in South Sumatra, located in Penindaian village, Semende Darat Laut district, Muara Enim regency.

Wasis said PDSI is preparing for the project technically and non-technically.

?We shall use Rig D-1500/57 which was previously used in Karaha Bodas geothermal project,? he said.

Aside from operating its rig, PDSI has also been appointed as Integrated Project Management (IPM) coordinator to also supervise the utilization of rigs owned by other companies in the working area. The project aims to increase the power plant?s capacity by 55 MW.

Lumut Balai has two power unit. The Unit 1 with a capacity of 55 MW is now under construction and is scheduled to be commercially ready this year, while Unit 2 is expected to come onstream in 2018. Lumut Balai Unit 3 dan 4, two additional units, are still in licensing-obtainment process and expected to come onstream in 2022.
