Peabody in talks to acquire Kalimantan coal assets

World?s largest private coal producer Peabody Energy Corp. said it was in talks to establish presence in Indonesian thermal and metallurgical coal operations.

The Company revealed in a presentation released on Thursday that it was evaluating greenfield metallurgical coal opportunity with local partner in Central Kalimantan, in discussions with several companies regarding equity investment, new mine development and long-term off-take in East Kalimantan and evaluating JV opportunity with established producer(s) in South Kalimantan.

The Company has in late 2009 opened office in Jakarta to undertake trading and business development.

The Company revealed that it was targeting a 100-million-tonne platform from its Asian operations. (alex)
