Peak load at Java-Bali grid hit record high

The peak load on the Java-Bali grid hit another record high of 23,208 MW on May 6, 2014 as power consumption continues to increase, state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) said in Thursday.

The May 6, 2014 peak load exceeded the previous record high of 22,974 MW recorded on April 24, 2014. It was 2.84 percent higher than the previous year?s highest peak load of 22,567 MW which occurred at 6.30 p.m. on Oct. 17, 2013

In view of the situation, PLN called on its customers in Java and Bali to use power more efficiently. Customers should switch off their TV, lamps if they are not in use.

To meet the growing demand for electricity in Java and Bali, several power projects have been launched, including the PLTA Upper Cisokan hydropower plant in Bandung and Cianjur regencies in West Java, PLN said. The power plant project worth Rp 10 trillion with a capacity of 4x360 MW is expected to come onstream in 2018.
