Singapore-based independent oil and gas company Pearl Energy Pte Ltd is expected to commence oil production in its Mengoepeh field of Tungkal production sharing contract (PSC) onshore Jambi province in January 2005.

The company has planned to produce 5,000 barrels per day (BPD) of high pour point crude oil from the Mengoepeh field, and is in the process of selecting qualified bidders to construct development facilities for the field.

"We will commence to develop the field in September 2004," Pearl vice president Richard Lorentz said in an email to Petromindo.Com.

Mengoepeh has oil reserves of approximately 6.5 million barrels, Lorentz said.

Pearl has a 100 percent working interest in the block after acquiring the concession area from ConocoPhillips last December.

The Mengoepeh oil field was discovered by Gulf Canada in April 1997 through its first wildcat well, which flowed oil with a maximum rate of 1,296 BPD. (robert)
