Pegasus: New method cuts pipeline installation by half

The new method, called 'bottom-towed', might cut pipeline installation almost half compared to using conventional method, Pegasus said.
"By adopting this method for offshore pipeline project, not only we are able to reduce cost for clients, we are also able to ensure the quality of the complicated cladded welding process carried out onshore. With this, the testing procedure can be conducted more thoroughly, as the cost for carrying out the test onshore is much lower than conducting it on board a lay barge," said Massoud Baghenejad, Pegasus' engineering director, on Tuesday.
Referring to its finished Persian gulf project, Pegasus said the pipeline installation was completed at a cost of US$3.3 million compared to $6 million if it used conventional method.
Pegasus supports clients with a broad range of offshore pipeline engineering, procurement and construction management services, which can provide engineering service from the conceptual development of a project through the commissioning, from inception to completion. (Hotma)
