Pekanbaru to have new power plant

A gas power plant will be constructed in Pekanbaru in April with project funds coming from a consortium of a local company and electricity firms from Batam, Suara Karya daily reported on Tuesday.

Rolls Royce will carry out the project which will be located in Teluk Lembu district, the paper quoted as saying Herlian Saleh, head Riau?s promotion and investment board.

The 2x75 megawatt power plant would require investment of Rp168 billion (US$=Rp8,870) and was planned for completion within two years, Herlian said.

Herlian said that 30 percent of the Rp168 billion would come from local company PT Pengembangan Investasi Riau, while the remaining balance would be from Batam investors.

Currently, electricity supply for the city of Pekanbaru and other areas in Riau comes from Kotopanjang hydro power plant. (*)
