State-owned port operator PT Pelindo II plans to set up a new port on Pulau Kijing, West Kalimantan, to serve among others the shipment of coal, bauxite and palm oil commodities.

Pelindo II Business Development Director Saptono R. Irianto told Petromindo.com recently that the planned new port is needed because of the limited capacity of the Pontianak Port.

The Pulau Kijing Port, which will have a water depth of 14-16 meters, is targeted to be completed in 2020, he added.

According to company website, the port will be developed by subsidiary PT Pengembangan Pelabuhan Indonesia. First phase of the project is expected to be operational in 2017.
