Pelindo II to build largest bulk terminals in Sumatra

State-owned port operator PT Pelindo II plans to build dry bulk and liquid bulk terminals in Bengkulu Province, which will have the largest capacities on Sumatra Island.

General Manager of Pelindo II Bengkulu branch office, Drajat Sulistyo was quoted by Antara as saying Saturday that construction of the dry bulk terminal is expected to start in the fourth quarter of this year.

The bulk terminal, which will have a capacity of 30 million tons, will among others facilitate shipment of coal.

Drajat said that construction of the liquid terminal has already started, and targeted for completion in the third quarter of 2018. The terminal will facilitate shipment of liquid products such as crude palm oil. He said that the liquid terminal will have a total capacity of six million tons, but in the first phase of construction it will have only 3 million tons. (*)
