State-owned port operator PT Pelindo III is adding a shore connection facility at the Tajung Emas Port in Semarang, Central Java Province.

Pelindo III said in a statement on Thursday that the shore connection facility will provide electricity supply to facilitate the loading and unloading activities at the port.

Instead of forcing the ships to keep running its engine to produce electricity for ship crane to unload or load cargoes from or onto the ships, through the shore connection facility, the port provides the required power supply, thus allowing the ships to turn off the engine and cut down fuel oil consumption.

Pelindo III said that the additional shore connection facility at the Tanjung Emas Port is currently at trial phase.

Pelindo III said that its subsidiary PT Lamong Energi Indonesia has installed a shore connection facility with capacity of 1 MW at the Dwimatama Terminal in the Tanjung Emas Port specifically to serve PT Pupuk Indonesia Logistic, a unit of state-owned fertilizer firm PT Pupuk Indonesia.

Pelindo III President Director Doso Agung said that the use of shore connection facility at the port increases efficiency in loading and unloading activities, accelerate loading and unloading process, and also help conserves fuel oil consumption, all of which will help reduce logistics costs at the port.

The shore connection facility has been installed at a number of ports operated by Pelindo III including Tanjung Perak, Benoa, Trisakti, Teluk Lamong, and Tanjung Emas.
