To help secure power needs in ports and surrounding areas, state owned port operator PT Pelindo III is in cooperation with state owned utility firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) on the energy supply.

An MoU was signed on Thursday by Pelindo III President Director Djarwo Surjanto and his PLN counterpart Nur Pamudji, which will kick start joint studies within the areas of financial, technical, commercial, legality and other aspects over future electricity delivery and sales to ports managed by Pelindo III and its surrounding areas.

Ports that are currently under Pelindo III?s management includes those in Surabaya, Semarang, Banjarmasin, Cilacap, Teluk Lamong, Benoa, Gresik, Probolinggo, Banyuwangi, Tenau-Kupang, Kotabaru, Sampit, Lembar, Kumai, Tegal, Celukan Bawang, Bima, and Maumere.

?If possible, PLN and Pelindo III in the future will form a joint venture for this cooperation. This is because, as in other countries, every port normally pushes for the establishment of industrial areas,? Nur Pamudji said after the signing.
