PT Pedopo Energi Batubara, a subsidiary of PT DH Energy, projects the coal output from its concession in Pali regency, South Sumatra to reach 120,000 tons next year, unchanged from this year.

?Our production for this year is projected to about the same amount,? Bambang Triharyono, Executive Project Director of DH Energy, told Petromindo.com on Tuesday.

Pali is a new regency in South Sumatra. Formerly, it was part of Muara Enim regency.

Bambang said Pendopo actually has a huge coal reserve, amounting to 2 billion tons, but the coal is of lignite type with a calorie content of 3000 kcal/kg. That?s the reason the firm finds it hard to market its coal and, thus, its production is still small.

He noted however that the firm often receives requests, particularly from Japanese companies, to send samples of its coal for research purpose.

Pendopo expects it may be able to increase its production, if the firm, in a consortium of several companies including Japanese firm Mitsubishi, win the tender held by state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara to build the PLTU Sumsel 9 and Sumsel 10 coal fired power plants. Coal from the power plants is expected to come from its coal mine.

?The winner of the tender for Sumsel 9 will be announced in December this year. If we win, Pendopo coal will be allocated for the power plant,? he said.
