PEP begins gas production at Benggala-1 well

PT Pertamina EP (PEP) has started gas production at the Benggala-1 well in Langkat block, North Sumatra, since late last month with a production rate of 2-3 mmscfd.

?Production has started since late last month with output rate of about 2-3 mmscfd,? PEP President Director Syamsu Alam told Petromindo.com Monday.

He said that the gas has been distributed via the existing pipeline to state-owned electricity firm PLN and state-owned gas distribution firm PGN.

The gas from the Benggala-1 well is expected to help resolve the current acute gas shortage in Medan, the capital of North Sumatra Province. PEP said earlier that production at the well to eventually reach 5-7 mmscfd.
