PT Pertamina EP, an upstream subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, managed to deliver higher oil and gas production from the aging Rantu field in Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh Province.
Pertamina said in a recent statement that oil output from Rantau field in the first quarter of this year totaled 2,444.73 bpd, or 15 percent higher than the target set in the 2017 work program and budget.
Meanwhile, gas production reached 3.84 mmscfd, or 31 percent higher than target.
The higher production comes following a number of measures taken by Pertamina EP Asset 1, which manages the Rantau field, including comprehensive evaluation of previously considered non-potential reservoir layers such as the Z-400B layer. Four wells in the Z-400B layer including P-361, P-415, P-417 and P-423 wells managed to produce 667 bpd of oil with average water content of 0-5 percent per well.
In the second quarter of this year, Pertamina EP Asset 1 plans to re-develop the R-150 well in the same Z-400B layer, which is expected to produce the same volume of oil as in the four aforementioned wells.
Additional output in the following quarter is also expected to come from the development other marginal fields such as the Prapen and Kuala Dalam structures. The planned development of the two structures will be made through integration of pressure maintenance and development of water treatment facility and injection plant (WTIP). Other measures include reparation and reopening of eight production wells and three injection wells, the statement said.
Elsewhere, the statement said that in the 2017 work program and budget of Pertamina EP Asset 1, the company plans to drill two new wells in Rantau field namely RNT-AA and RNT-SZ19. Drilling of the RNT-AA or P-450 was completed on March 5 with a final depth of 917 meters. The well started production on March 6 at 72 bopd. Meanwhile, the RNT-SZ19 well was spudded on April 9 as P-451 with target depth of 510 meters.
The statement also said that Pertamina EP Asset 1 plans to reactive 31 suspended wells this year in the hope to gain additional output of 675 bopd.
