Upstream company PT Pertamina EP (PEP), a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina, said that its unit PEP Papua Field delivered strong oil production in the first-half of this year despite aging condition of the fields.
Pertamina said in a statement on Friday that in January-June period of this year, PEP Papua Field reached oil production of 1,002 bpd, slightly higher than target.
?The total production of PEP Papua Field, if consolidated with production from the Wakamuk unitization field reached 1,072 bopd, or 98.2 percent of the target,? said Papua Field Manager, Julfrinson Sinaga in the statement.
PEP Papua Field operates a number of upstream assets in the Bird?s Head Region of West Papua including Klamono, Kla?mumuk, Sele-Linda, and Salawati fields.
Julfrinson said that despite slow start in the early part of the year, the company managed to accelerate production in the latter months by trying hard to maintain production at the aging fields and reactivation of suspended wells. The strong first-half production was made possible among others with the reactivation of two suspended wells, namely KLO-177 and KLO-137 in the first quarter. In addition, intermittent output was also obtained from the SLW-D1X. Additional output came from SLW-A1 well, which has started intermittent production since March 3.
?The challenge in achieving production at Papua Field is the absence of well drilling and work-over,? said Julfrinson. ?Limitations in the development of Papua Field have pushed the workers to think creatively and work hard to collect output from suspended wells regularly,? he said.
