PT Pertamina EP (PEP), an upstream subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, said that oil output at Papua field, in the Bird?s Head region of West Papua Province, last year reached 1,132 bopd, or 4.4 percent higher than the target set in the 2016 work and budget plan.

Julfrinson Alfredo Sinaga, Manager of Papua field, said in a statement Saturday that the production performance was a result of various measures applied by the company to help arrest natural production decline at the aging field. He said that the natural decline rate was quite high.

He said that among of the measures include fast response whenever incidents or problems occurred at the field, re-opening of wells, reparation program, and identifying well candidates which still have potential to increase production.

He added that last year, as many as 21 wells were reactivated with total production gain averaging 10.5 bopd.
