PEP resumes crude pumping in South Sumatra

PT Pertamina EP (PEP), a subsidiary of state oil and gas company PT Pertamina, has resumed its pumping of crude from Tempino to Plaju in South Sumatera since Saturday morning. It was planned to be conducted in stages at the rate of 250-400 barrels per hour.
The crude pumping was resumed after PEP signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with South Sumatera regional police to combat the illegal tapping on Pertamina?s oil pipes.
?The pumping has been resumed since 7:30 in the morning, after we signed the MOU and the police convinces us that they will seriously deal with the oil theft,? PEP Public Relations Manager Agus Amperianto told Petromindo.com in Jakarta on Saturday.
Previously on 25th July, PEP decided to stop temporarily the crude pumping, due to the recurring cases of illegal tapping on its pipes. Agus noted that the illegal tappings were conducted in a massive scale and well organized, involving certain individuals from the local security institutions.
PEP, he said, will ensure the stability of oil fuels (BBM) supply in South Sumatra ahead of the Lebaran festivity, so that the local people will not have to face problems of supply and price of BBM.
