PEP Sangasanga hits seven-year high in daily oil production

By Tri Luluk Lufiana

PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Sangasanga Field recorded its highest daily crude oil production in seven years, reaching 6,334 barrels per day (BOPD) on April 13, 2025. This milestone follows a strong 2024 performance, where the field exceeded its production targets and booked gas sales of 5.2 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD)

The surge was driven largely by the reactivation of well NKL-1035, which contributed 1,893 BOPD. Initially revived in 2024 for a modest gas output of 0.3 MMSCFD, the well was optimized to reach 0.6 MMSCFD by February 2025. In mid-February, it began yielding oil naturally. As reservoir pressure dropped, a Hydraulic Pumping Unit (HPU) was installed, significantly boosting production.

“The success of reactivating this well is a result of applying a continuous optimization strategy and the team's dedication to maintaining and improving operational performance,” said Sigid Setiawan, Senior Field Manager of PEP Sangasanga, in a statement on Tuesday.

Ade Diar Suhendar, Senior Manager of Production & Projects for Zone 9, highlighted that PEP Sangasanga is implementing long-term strategies to sustain operations in mature fields. “We're focused on economic viability and long-term value creation for stakeholders and national energy security,” he said.

Located in South Kalimantan, PEP Sangasanga Field is part of Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) under Upstream Sub-holding Regional 3, operating across the Kalimantan region.
