PT Pertamina EP (PEP), a subsidiary of sate owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, has started its enhanced oil recovery (EOR) pilot project using surfactant injection technology at its Tanjung field in South Sumatra.

?The surfactant injection started on Tuesday. We are only trying on one well for now,? PEP Development Director Dodi Priambodo told Petromindo.com on Friday.

PEP earlier said it planned to carry out the EOR program in two fields, namely Tanjung and Kaji-Semoga, this year. The firm said it would run the program first at Tanjung, and then at Kaji-Semoga. Both are part of the three EOR projects scheduled to be implemented this year. The other EOR project is to implemented by PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia at Minas field in Riau.

The EOR projects aim to raise oil production from mature fields.
