PT Pertamina EP (PEP), an upstream subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, is scheduled to drill another delineation well named the Benggala-3 within the Pangkalan Susu filed in Langkat Regency, North Sumatra, in early Sept. 2014.

?Currently we are conducting the site preparation for drilling of the Benggala-3 well,? Acting VP for Exploration of PEP Imam Setiawan told Petromindo.com, adding that the Benggala-2 delineation well is now being drilled.

The company hopes that the drilling of the Benggala-2 and Benggala-3 wells can follow the successful drilling of Benggala-01 so that it could help increase national oil and gas reserves particularly in North Sumatra. Production in Benggala-1 well has started since last year with output rate of about 2-3 mmscfd of gas. The gas has been distributed via the existing pipeline to state-owned electricity firm PLN and state-owned gas distribution firm PGN. The gas from the Benggala wells is expected to help resolve the current acute gas shortage in Medan, the capital of North Sumatra Province.
