Perdana Karya fails to reach 2009 coal output target

The company said in statement that its coal production in 2009 only reached 380,000 tons as against the target of 1.1 million tons.
The 2009 coal production is sourced from its Teluk Dalam mine (realized output of 32,000 tons compared with the target of 168,000 tons) in Samarinda, Dondang (257,000 tons as against the target of 600,000 tons) and Bantuas (87,000 tons as against the target of 200,000 tons) mines in Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan.
Two other mines owned by the firm, respectively located in Marangkayu in Kutai Kartanegara regency and Semoi in Penajam Paser Utara regency, East Kalimantan delayed commercial operation due to the absence of land clearance permit from the Ministry of Forestry, the company said.
Coal prices in 2009 period are US$50 to $65 for calorie 6,100 to 6,300 kcal/kg calorie, $40 to $53 for 5,600 to 5,800 kcal/kg calorie, and $.36 to $22 to $36 for 5,100 to 5,300 kcal/kg, it added.
The company said in the report that it is targeting to produce 950,000 tons of coal this year. This is lower compared to the previous statements in which the firm said it would produce 1.4 million tons.
The coal will be sold to domestic and overseas markets, he said. ?For the domestic market, Perdana Karya has signed a contract with PLN (state owned power company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara), while for export market the company is still looking for buyers in China and Korea," the company?s president director Soeroso said last year.
