IDX-listed PT Perdana Karya Perkasa Tbk plans to produce methanol from coal in 2018 as part of the company?s efforts to generate greater value added from low rank coal, and to anticipate declining price of the commodity in the future.
?We?ll initially produce synthetic alcohol from coal. It will then be processed into methanol which will be used as a mixture in fuel,? President Director Untung Haryono told Petromindo.com recently.
He said that the company is still scouting for the right technology, and is considering one developed in the US by a company, which is currently teaming up with state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina to produce synthetic alcohol.
