Perdana to build coal-processing plant

IDX-listed PT Perdana Karya Perkasa Tbk will build a coal-processing plant worth about Rp 5.6 trillion (about 450 million euro) to produce synthetic alcohol commonly used as a blend for petroleum production, Investor Daily reported on Saturday.

The company?s corporate secretary Herry Priambodo said in Jakarta on Friday that the coal processing plant which was scheduled for commercial operation in 2015 would be able to produce about 250,000 liters of synthetic alcohol per month.

?Pertamina will buy the alcohol for about US$1,500 per ton,? he said, adding that Perdana Karya had named Swiss company ProCone GmbH, to handle the engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) works of the project.

Perdana Karya will also team up with Lanza Tech to develop the coal processing technology for the plant.

Herry said that a German financial company had agreed to finance the project, but he declined to disclose the name of the company. (*)
