PT Pertagas Niaga (PT GN), a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, has recently started supplying LNG for the RSUD Abdul Wahab Sjahranie Hospital in East Kalimantan Province, the first hospital in the country to use LNG to heat up its water boiler.

PT GN President Director Linda Sunarti said that the hospital requires LNG supply of 77 mmbtud.

She said that the company obtains the LNG from Chevron?s Bangka field, which is then transported from Filing Station Plant 26 of Pertagas at the PT Badak NGL compound in Bontang using ISO tank trucks to the hospital in Samarinda.

Linda expects the hospital?s LNG demand to increase in the future.

PT GN has started LNG distribution business via ISO tanks since 2014. The company has also been distributing LNG to hotels and shopping malls in Balikpapan, to mining firms, and to PT PEP Tanjung as fuel for electricity turbines. The company has also started shipping LNG to Ambon, in Maluku Province, from Bontang.

Linda said that the LNG business via ISO tanks is expected to further expand as there are many areas in the country which have yet to be connected by gas pipeline networks.

She said the company is seeking to expand the business in Sumatra and Java. In April of next year, PT GN will supply LNG for the Sembera PLTG gas-fired power plant owned by state-owned electricity firm PT PLN.
