Pertagas starts construction of Porong-Grati gas pipeline

PT Petamina Gas (Pertagas) kicked off on Monday the construction of a 56-km gas pipeline linking Porong and Grati, both in East Java.

?The Porong-Grati pipeline will be equipped with future connection, which will give opportunities for indusrtries situated along with areas through which the pipeline will pass will avail themselves of the gas and to provide the public with greater access to gas,? Hendra Jaya , Pertagas?s President Director, said in a statement on Monday.

He said Pertagas will speed up the development of the project as it already gas supplies for the pipeline and buyers of the gas. The gas will be delivered to meet the needs of state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN). The statement did not specify the power plant that will receive the gas supplies but PLN has a power plant in Grati.

The pipeline will pass through two regencies in East Java, including Sidoarjo and Pasuruan. It is designed to be a open-access pipeline with a capacity of 122 mmscfd and a diameter of 18 inches. It will starts from Porong. The commissioning is scheduled for third quarter of 2015.

The firm did not mention the amount of investment but last year the firm said it would spend US$87 million for the project.
