PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas), a gas distribution subsidiary of state oil and gas company PT Pertamina, has decided to cooperate with state utility company PT PLN in building a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) in Semarang, Central Java.

?The construction of the FSRU is pending the permit from the regency government. Permit from the provincial government has already been secured,? said Pertagas corporate secretary, Eko Agus Sarjono Friday.

Pertagas is now waiting for certainty over gas supply from the government. It is not clear yet whether the gas will be supplied from Tangguh or other places. Eko said a number of countries, such as Qatar, has also offered to supply LNG to the FSRU.

?In principle, we are ready to buy gas from anywhere as long as the price is in line with market price,? he said.

Earlier, PT Pertagas said it will award Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation, and Commissioning (EPCIC) contract for FSRU project in November this year to enable operations to start in 2013.

President Director of Pertagas, Gunung Sardjono, has said that the the FSRU will have capacity to process 1.5-3 MTPA of LNG to be distributed in Central and East Java region. (*)
