Pertagas unit in talks with Osaka Gas for joint project

PT Pertagas Niaga, a subsidiary of state-owned gas distribution firm PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas), has been in talks with Japan?s Osaka Gas for possible cooperation in a number of businesses including to jointly develop a 22 km gas pipeline in South Jakarta and gas filling station, according to Arief Wardono, General Manager at Pertagas Niaga.
Arief told Petromindo.com that the pipeline will connect Depok, Ragunan, Lebak Bulus, and Blok M areas to distribute gas for households and shopping malls. If this planned venture is successful, there is possibility to replicate it in other cities, he added.
He expects the government this year will assign PT Pertamina, the parent of Pertagas, to manage gas distribution in seven cities including Subang, Cirebon, Bogor, Ogan Ilir, Blora, Sidoardjo, and Sorong.
The planned cooperation with Osaka Gas is expected to make the service quality and safety of Pertagas to reach the standard of that of the Japanese firm, Arief said.
To date, Pertagas Niaga has served 13,000 household consumers spread in major cities across Indonesia. To help develop the city gas business, the company has allocated Rp 60 billion of investment this year.
