The East Kalimantan provincial administration had thus far managed to collect Rp 142 million (US$1=Rp 8,795) or 1.4 percent of the Rp 10 billion tax target revenue on vehicles and fuel used by vehicles in the first half of the year.
Head of East Kalimantan's tax office Abdul Rachim Asmaran said state oil and gas company Pertamina and its production sharing contractors in the province owed the provincial administration a total of Rp 4.6 billion in unpaid taxes on vehicle and fuel used by vehicles (PKB/BBNKB) during the period.
Gold mining company PT Kelian Equatorial Mining (KEM), a subsidiary of mining giant Rio Tinto, owed the provincial administration Rp 186 in unpaid taxes on their heavy equipment, he said.
He further said the province is lobbying the central government to allow the province to expand the PKB/BBNKB coverage to include the shipment of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the province.
If the central government approves the province's plan, the province could obtain additional tax revenue of Rp 37 billion from the shipment of LNG, he said. (*)
